I previously reviewed on Amazon the first book in this trilogy: Call of the Herald. Everything I said in that review basically stands for this book and the next as well. Understandably so, since it’s apparent that all 3 books were likely written at the same time as a single book and split for convenience.

Now books 2 and 3 being the same as book 1 has good and bad points. The good is that the story is still interesting and the main character is still engaging.

However, the deficiencies become increasingly distracting. We still have secondary characters who have no apparent reason for existing, minor storylines that contribute little to the overall narrative, and a main character whose erratic swings between helpless/juvenile/incompetent behavior and Wonderwoman are sometimes annoying.

Having said all that…I read book 2 and then bought book 3 and read it too. Go figure.

Just make this a book to read on an airplane or during or between some other light activity. It’s generally interesting and enjoyable and a good bargain on Kindle. I’m not sorry I bought the books.

The Dawning of Power – another great fantasy!, December 15, 2010
This review is from: Inherited Danger (The Dawning of Power) (Kindle Edition)

Legend says that a Herald will be born who will save the land of Godfist from invaders. This Herald will fight for their freedom. To some it is only a legend but to others it is a prophecy, waiting to be fulfilled. The Zjhon are ancient enemies and are planning an attack but no one takes heed of these warnings until it is too late. Now it is up to the Herald to save them. The question is… will the Herald realize her destiny in time to save Godfist?

But that’s not all…the Zjhon believe in the prophecy and have given the order to search for the Herald and do away with her. This is an intriguing fantasy and is hard to put down. The description of scenery is so well written that I could imagine it in my mind. The characters are believable and well developed. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The Dawning of Power is a trilogy, which includes Call of the Herald, Inherited Danger, and Dragon Ore. I would recommend this book for all ages.

Written by Linda Weaver Clarke, author of the new mystery series “The Adventures of John and Julia Evans.”

As the 2nd book of a trilogy, there is a danger that this book will just serve as transition for the finale. Fortunately, there is plenty of action in the 4,110 locations. Death comes to some characters, and other characters fade into the background. Catrin steps even more firmly into the spotlight.

The novel asks the interesting question of does fate cause prophecies to come true, or is people who believe in prophecy that cause those same prophecies to be fulfilled?

Solid follow-up to the first book. I’ll pick up the 3rd book, so I’d say the author got me interested enough to keep going.

The background is interesting enough that I would be interested in other stories set in the world.

As I said in my first review, I appreciate that the author hasn’t written 1200 page tomes. I’ve read a lot of 19th Century works, and I like my books in smaller sizes, like this one.

Definitely worth getting if you like fantasy.
