My comp is a windows xp and it is a desktop. Its so slow! HELP! any tips or suggestions. i tried deleting a lot of unused programs but it dosen’t seem to help and i have comcast!

Please specify what it is slow in particular. 54mbps, I’m going to just assume you are talking about a G wireless card. That is just a connection speed, has to do with the network speed, not computer speed. How old is the hardware? When you removed these programs, did you use the Add/Remove Programs or did you just delete folders? Unless the hard drive is almost at its limit, or you have rampant registry files that are going unused, this is rarely the problem. If the hardware is more than 3-4 years old, and you are installing newer programs, don’t expect this to be speedy. A general defragmenting will usually help the accessing speed of programs, but not night and day on general speed. If you are talking about slow Internet functions, then that could be some other things, and you would need to specify what speed you are paying for through Comcast, browser, etc.

    You most likely need more Ram. It is cheap and easy to install, and it will speed up your Computer.

  • Perfectest

    For running slow there are many causes:
    Microsoft Registry Problems = Slow Computer!
    Spyware/Adware
    RAM
    De-Fragmenting
    Etc.

    Below can help you speed up your pc:

    For IE, click Tools, Internet Options delete files (offline files) clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want) click o.k., and Restart

    For Firfox, press ctrl+shift+del, and click clean private data.

    Manage your startup:
    Open your Start menu -> Click Run -> In the command screen type “msconfig.exe” -> In the “system configuration utility”, click either “service” or “startup” tab -> Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

    De-Fragmenting
    1. Right click of C Disk.
    2. Click properties.
    3. Click tools tab.
    4. Click “Defragment now”.
    5. Click Defragment.

    You can search which process full use you cpu, and end the process.

    Under steps:
    1. right click on the TaskBar.
    2. click the Task Manager.
    3. click the processes tab.
    4. double click the CPU.
    5. find if the “System Idle Process” is max.
    6. if not right click and click end process.
