How to Install Windows XP

This article will tell you how to install a computer running Windows XP from scratch, or repair Windows XP. I always recommend that you at complete re-installation lets the computer boot from the Windows installation disc. By proceeding in the manner instead of running the setup program from Windows to avoid any issues with files stored on a disk that you want to reformat. Installing Windows XP takes on average 40 minutes. On a new computer, it may go a lot faster and you can get down to 15-20 minutes. However, on an older computer, it can take up to and perhaps more than 60 minutes to install. In these times do not count the time to format the hard disk.
Before starting the installation or repair

Before you begin to install or repair Windows XP, I recommend that you integrate Service Pack 3 and create a fresh new Windows XP disc. The advantages of this is that you do not install Service Pack 3 after installation and that more hardware is supported, with Service Pack 3, particularly more SATA controller. How to create a slipstreamed (integrated) Windows disc with Service Pack 3, you can read about in the article Integrating Windows XP Service Pack 3.
Step 1 – Make sure your computer boots from the CD / DVD drive

Windows XP CD is bootable, which means that you put the disc into the CD / DVD drive then the installation program for Windows XP starts. However, this requires that your computer’s settings are set so that the computer attempts to boot from CD / DVD drive. To check this, you must enter the BIOS on the computer, something you usually do by pressing one of the keys [F1], [F2], [Esc] or [Delete] just when you start your computer when computer supplier sign displayed.

What exactly you should press usually appear when you boot your computer. In the BIOS, you must then look for something like “Boot devices” or “Boot Order”. There is usually then be a list, where the hard drive, floppy drive, CD / DVD drive, but often the network adapter is included. In this list, make sure that the CD-ROM is at the top. When you restart your computer with Windows XP CD in, you will hear how the CD / DVD drive spins up and then gently that a message will appear on your screen, “Press any key to start with The CD … “. So you have to press a key on the keyboard to start the installation program.

If you are installing or repairing Windows XP, follow the steps below. Note that in broad terms is exactly the same approach to make a completely new installation as it is to do a repair of an existing Windows XP installation.

1st Insert the Windows XP CD into the CD / DVD reader on your computer and turn on the computer. When the message “Press any key …” appears at the top of the screen, simply press any key then your computer’s hardware checked before installing the program is loaded.

3rd You will have to approve the license agreement by pressing [F8] and once that’s done, you choose which partition to install Windows XP on, or to choose the partition containing the XP installation you intend to repair. Do you want to partition the drive, do so now, otherwise just press [Enter] when you selected the correct partition.
Warning! To partition their hard drive is always a very good idea. When you divide your hard drive, there will be two partitions though there is only one physical disk. One advantage of partitioning is that if you need to reformat your computer in the future you can add all the files you want to keep the formatting of the second partition and not have to transfer files via external hard drive, CD / DVD or network.

The hard disk is formatted and then copied the installation files to disk. The computer will restart after it let the computer be, that is, do not press any keys to start the setup program, it automatically starts.

Step 3 – Updating and secure your computer before you proceed

Before you do anything with your computer, be sure to first update your computer via Windows Update or Microsoft Update, even better. Unfortunately, you prepare yourself for a number of reboots before all updates and required Windows Update components, but also all the Windows updates are installed.
Warning! Important to remember after a repair is that you must install all the security updates again, so a visit to Windows Update is required for the repair.
Step 4 – Drivers

With Windows XP, follow the number of drivers for most video cards, sound cards and other hardware. Unfortunately, these drivers often working with modern hardware then XP has some years behind it, despite the updated drivers in the latest Service Pack 3. The drivers included with Windows XP are also scaled-down drivers that do not contain all the functionality that manufacturers’ own drivers do.

It is therefore a good idea to visit the hardware manufacturers’ websites to download and install the latest drivers, especially if you use your computer to play or want to have greater opportunities to set things on a printer for example. Visit in the first place your computer manufacturer’s website or hardware manufacturer’s website. Ultimately, you if you still have an unknown device, install drivers via Windows Update.

Thanks / M.
