What is Microsoft's plan for Windows Vista's future?

Question by IT Ninja: What is Microsoft’s plan for Windows Vista’s future?
I see that they are supporting XP much longer than they should, and Windows 7 is amazing, and everyone is talking about both operating systems. What about Vista? Are they pulling the Windows ME trick, paving over it and forgetting it ever happened?
I never had any trouble with Vista actually, other than it being a bit slow to boot up.

They are currently working on Windows 8. Microsoft has extended XP support because many businesses did not upgrade to Vista due to compatibility issues with many business software programs. Windows 7 Pro and Ultimate have XP Mode to run old software. Vista does not. So Vista will not be supported as long as XP has. Usually 4 or 5 years from release and they will stop offering updates and support for Vista.

Many young people began with XP and never knew anything previously. They are reluctant to change. Many people who upgraded to Vista did so with computers not equipped to run it properly. Intsead of blaming themselves or their computers, they blamed Vista as an easy option. Instead of upgrading their RAM or whatever and trying again they have chosen to downgrade to XP. This is something like finding a brand new 2007 car difficult to handle and going back to the 2002 model. Strange.
Thousands of us have used Vista since 2007 with no problems whatsoever. Why should Microsoft “paper over” a perfectly good operating system?

No, Windows 7 is their solution. Even though it’s the same OS with a slightly different GUI. Same crap, same bloat, same unstability, same insecurity. Ditch Windows. Get a Mac or install Linux. If you think Vista was crap it’s amazing that you think Windows 7 is any better.

Steve just stepped out with Bill for a moment. I’ll ask them when they come back.
