Gossip Girl is taking television viewers by storm, and is making a statement in the fashion world, as well. In fact, it isn’t just the girls who are creating buzz, but also the male cast as well. In fact, the boys of the CW teen drama have just appeared on Out magazine’s March fashion issue. Featured on the upcoming issue are Chace Crawford, Penn Badgley and Ed Westwick, who, according to the magazine, got involved in some “roughhousing” photo shoots.
The three are very familiar for fans who watch Gossip Girl, the CW series following a group of socialite young adults growing up on New York ‘s Upper East Side . They attend elite academic institution while dealing with sex, drugs and other teenage issues. The show has steadily garnered a solid fan base, who were commonly drawn to the show as a downloadable series on iTunes. In fact, the fan base has already grown to consist of men, women and gays over a short period of time.
The magazine features more than just the boys on the cover. In fact, subscribers will be given a treat of several poses of the boys, who have revealed their thoughts about targeting an entirely different audience for the series.
“I don’t think network TV really has the balls to make one of their [teenage] series’ regulars gay,” Badgley told the popular gay men’s fashion, entertainment, and lifestyle magazine. “Let’s say the show builds up to become a big hit, then I think they’d maybe explore it in year three or four. It would be an interesting thing to do. It could bring in a whole different demographic.”
Badgley plays the sensitive, chain-smoking, caffeine-addicted poet Dan Humphrey on Gossip Girl, while co-star Westwick portrays the rich, lust-driven, phone sex fanatic, perverted antagonist, Chuck Bass. On the other hand, Crawford appears as Nate Archibald, another troubled young man. Nate is terribly uncomfortable with all the riches that had been passed on to him by his family, and is also troubled by the fact that he slept with his girlfriend, Blair’s (Leighton Meister) best friend, Serena (Blake Lively).
