How do I switch from ubuntu to windows without restarting?

Posted on

I currently have two hard drives, one has ubuntu the other windows. At the moment I restart my PC and choose a different primary boot drive to switch between the two. Is there any way to switch between them without restarting my PC, or reinstalling either?

I am not quite sure how it is done, but most people will use the program that is discussed in the link below. I’m sure it can be done with some kind of batch file like the ones used for Linux that installs in Windows. I know this isn’t much help, since I tri boot all my computers with Windows and two different Linux distributions. Switching back and forth is something I don’t need to be doing.

If you just need to access your Windows files while your in Ubuntu then you just need to mount the Windows drive (sorry you can’t mount the Ubuntu drive when your in Windows).

    Otherwise you have two options:
    1. Install Ubuntu inside Windows using the WuBi installer. That way you can run Ubuntu applications natively inside Windows.
    2. Use a virtual machine like VMWare Server or Virtual Box and install either Ubuntu or Windows (depending which OS you want to run all the time) into it.
