I want to start using Ubuntu but I don’t necessarily want to get rid of windows XP. Is there a way that I can use Ubuntu but keep Windows XP on my computer?

Yes, partition your hard drive. You can do this using the Ubuntu installation disk, but I suggest you do some googling on the subject first.

Ubuntu has an install option called Wubi, if you install it that way it’s like installing another Windows application.

boot from the cd as if you were about to install it and when you get to the part that askes about the partition just create a knew one with the free space left on your pc.
    (its called a dual boot)
